• Home Wood

Home Wood, Kodaikanal is an eco-spirituality centre of the Madhya Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India. Since its inception in 2012, the centre has established its name as a place to relax, unwind and refresh the body, mind and soul. Home Wood boasts of a heritage ambience of around 200 years. We provide accommodation and homely food to discerning travellers and families coming down to Kodaikanal. Whether it be sightseeing, boating in the Kodaikanal lake (just 300 meters from the centre), or even a lazy walk through the meandering lanes hand in hand with nature – Home Wood is the place from where you can start, and the home which welcomes you back to rest.

History

Home Wood, Kodaikanal is a 200 year old English cottage with an aura of luxury and style. Three generations of British missionaries who had a passion for India lived here till the late 1990s, after which the property was inherited by the Church of South India. The centre came under the care of the Diocese of Madhya Kerala, and the Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Thomas K Oommen initiated plans to develop this as an eco-spirituality centre. The project was taken up by the Diocesan leadership and its office bearers - Very. Rev. P U Paulose (Clergy Secretary), Prof. George Jacob (Lay Secretary), Rev. Daniel George (Treasurer) and Adv. Stephen J Daniel (Registrar) gave key concern to its development and its dedication and launch in July 2012. An officer of the Diocese will oversee the functions of the centre, and the day-to-day affairs will be managed by a theology probationer or trainee of the Diocese.

  • HOME WOOD CENTRE FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Inspired from the legacy of Church Missionary Society (CMS) Movement for about 200 years, the Madhya Kerala Diocese of Church of South India has initiated thoughts and prayers for establishing a Mission Field at Kodaikanal in the coming years. The scope of community development is immense in the remote and rural areas of the city which still need to come out of the grips of superstition and exploitation.
